DescriptionLadies' 18K yellow gold and porcelain pin. The round porcelain portrait is bezel set in a round frame with four collet-set diamonds at the top, bottom, left, and right. The frame is decorated with two profiles of griffins with open mouths and a series of scrolls and leaves. Two collet-set diamonds are set at the bottom of the frame next to a trefoil motif. The frame is made of bloomed gold (gold that has been acid treated in order to leave a layer of higher karat gold on the surface). There is a pin stem with a tube hinge and "C" clasp and a small loop that serves as a bail. The pin is circa 1865 though the portrait could be older. On View
