DescriptionRabbi Issac Celnik stands outside Congregation B'Nai Israel at 4401 Indian School Road Northeast in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Rabbi is wearing a dark blazer and a striped tie and he smiles at the camera. The building is round with brick walls and a bowed roofline. The words "Congregation B'Nai Israel" are displayed on the brick wall behind the Rabbi. A printed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "CRYPTO-JEWS Rabbi Isaac Celnik stands outside the Congregation B'Nai Israel in Albuquerque, N.M. The congregation of about 450 also includes a handful of "crypto-Jews" also known as "conversos." In the remote frontier, they survived openly as Roman Catholics while covertly maintaining Jewish traditions and beliefs."
