DescriptionThis small copper coin bank depicts a man standing with a rifle before a cannon and houses. The man stands on a small platform that reads "The Minute Man" in etched lettering. The backside of the coin bank reads "Albuquerque National / Bank" and "Albuquerque, N.M." at the bottom in significantly smaller lettering within what appears to be a bell symbol. Located on North Third Street and West Central Avenue, Albuquerque's First National Bank, built during the first half of the twentieth century, just over a decade after New Mexico achieved statehood, pioneered financial institutions in the state and symbolized the beginning of significant economic stability. Following its high cost to build, the bank became New Mexico's first skyscraper until 1954, standing at 141 feet tall. There is a small coin slot on the bottom side of the coin bank with the words "Banthrico Inc. / Chicago U.S.A." in small, white, etched lettering. On View
