Sebastián Pickerborn 1956 Santiago, Chile; lives Santiago, Chile

Sebastián Picker was born in 1956 in Santiago, Chile. His artistic beginnings are rooted in cartooning, a form of expression that awakened his interest in art at a very young age. When he was 11 years old, Picker’s drawings were published in a Los Angeles magazine. Three years later he travelled to Rome, where he studied animation under the tutelage of Master Paolo Di Girólamo. In 1973, Picker moved with his family to the United States. There his artistic interest shifted, and he put cartooning aside to dedicate himself to painting.

In 1974, Picker enrolled in The Art Institute of Boston as well as the Massachusetts College of Art, but after studying briefly at both institutions, he decided to leave his formal studies behind. He adopted a self-taught approach, exploring and developing his skills independently and experimenting with various media, including sculpture. In 1975, at age 19, he had his first solo exhibition at Gallery 355 in Boston, United States.

Picker has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in several countries of the Americas and Europe such as Spain, France, the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, among others. His work has been auctioned at Christie's and he has participated in principal art fairs over the years.

He currently works and lives in Santiago de Chile.
