BiographyCooper was born in New York City. His formal art training began in 1963 at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. Five years later he was selected to receive the Young Talent Award at the Los Angeles County Museum and has since been the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts grants. In retrospect, Cooper gained widespread recognition for his "light traps" made from layers of fiberglass and resin. He has also worked in bronze, ceramics, and photography.
