Henry Jaffa

BiographyHenry Nathan Jaffa was the first Mayor of New Albuquerque, elected in 1885 when Albuquerque was incorporated, and also helped organize New Mexico's first synagogue, Congregation Albert, in 1897. He was a Jewish German immigrant who came to the United States as a young man and moved out West after the Civil War. He first settled in southern Colorado before opening a business in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1879, and extending the business to Albuquerque.
