Rhonda Holy Bear was born on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota in 1959. Holy Bear is a Lakota transitional art figure artist. She has been creating figures for over 45 years. She spent her early years on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and later in Chicago. She eventually settled in New Mexico, and later Las Vegas, Nevada. In her youth, Holy Bear researched the work of her ancestors at the Chicago Field Museum. Her transitional art figures are a combination of sculpture and traditional techniques.
