BiographyGilbert Lorenzo "Cow" Baca served as the New Mexico State House Sergeant at Arms from 1989 until his death in 2003 following a lengthly illness. He was known by his childhood nickname, Cow, and grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he also attended college. He spent 26 years working with the state Highway Department. After his retirement from there, he worked as the district office manager and campaign manager for then-Rep. Bill Richardson. At the request of Governor Bruce King, he served as liaison between the state Highway Department and the governor's office. He then became the house sergeant at arms.
