BiographyDistinguished actor, director and educator, Lou Criss was a World War II Veteran who was in the second wave of Allied troops landing in Normandy and was wounded there. He received a Purple Heart. Lou was involved in theater for his entire professional life. He was active in the American Repertory Theatre Movement in the 1960's and directed at The Alley in Houston, Charles Street Theater in Boston, Studio Arena in Buffalo and was the Artistic Director of the McCarter Theater in Princeton. In later years Lou was a Professor of Theater at the University of New Mexico and taught at A.M.D.A. in New York City. Lou Criss was an iconoclast, a deep thinker, a dedicated reader, a connoisseur of art and classical music and profoundly devoted to animal welfare. He was a remarkable man who will be greatly missed by friends and family.
