DescriptionThis typewriter is black and folds in half for storage in its 2-piece carrying case. It is made of painted steel with chrome levers and a carbon ink ribbon. The typewriter was owned by Ernier Pyle who was an award winning American journalist from Indiana. During World War II, Pyle became a war correspondent who is best known for his stories about ordinary American soldiers. While interviewing Sergeant Don Bell in 1994 outside of St. Lo. France, the foxhole they shared caved in during German shelling and the typewriter was buried inside. Sergeant Bell later salveged it, kept it through the war, and donated it to the Museum in 1990.On View
