DescriptionThis campaign button was produced for Warren G. Harding's 1920 bid for the United States presidency. Harding, a U.S. senator from Ohio, won the 1920 presidential election in a landslide, running on a platform of a return to "normalcy" after the tumult and upheaval of World War I and the progressive reforms of the previous decade. His campaign emphasized a desire for national healing, economic stability, and limited government intervention. Harding's victory was aided by widespread disillusionment with the Wilson administration and the desire to retreat from international involvement. Although his presidency was marred by scandals, including the Teapot Dome affair, Harding's election marked a shift toward conservative policies and a more isolationist foreign stance. The button has a white background, with a monochrome portrait of Harding in the center. Blue text runs around the outside of the button which reads "FOR PRESIDENT / WARREN G. HARDING."
