DescriptionThis silver-toned metal bottle was used in the christening ceremony of the USS Albuquerque (SSN-706), a Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine. The bottle has an elongated neck and a rounded base, with an engraved inscription marking the ship’s launch. The lower half of the bottle features a decorative pattern of cut-out stars arranged in rows. A fabric ribbon in red, white, and blue is attached to the bottle’s neck, signifying its ceremonial purpose. The word “STANDBY” is engraved near the base. The USS Albuquerque was sponsored by Nancy L. Domenici, wife of U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, and built by the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut. The USS Albuquerque was commissioned to recognize New Mexico’s contributions to national defense, particularly through its military bases and defense research institutions. On View
