Cooking Pot 77 cents was the first print Andy Warhol ever published. At the time, Warhol was exploring different printmaking techniques and sources for his images. This particular image was taken directly from a newspaper advertisement and showed Warhol’s interest in replicating imagery, which would expand into his well-known works that both replicate and manipulate images. Warhol would later utilize screen-printing techniques and add variation to images through the use of color as seen in his prints of chairman Mao, on view in this exhibition.
