DescriptionThis desk lamp, constructed of wood and metal, encompasses a gooseneck fixture, allowing for the light to be adjusted while in use. The bottom portion of the lamp includes a wedge-shaped platform holding up a smaller wooden platform on top of it. A wooden cutout of a novel by Wilfred McCormick (1903-1983). The cutout is a muted green color, illustrating a cutout of two baseball players in the center, and reading "Bases Loaded" in large letters on the top, while "A Bronic Burnett Story" is depicted beneath it. The bottom of the cutout includes the author, reading "By / Wilfred McCormick". Born in Indiana, later moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, McCormick gained notoriety for his fictional baseball novels, sparking the interest of sports fans. Above the novel cut-out sits a brass-colored connector, attaching the adjustable, metal gooseneck feature, which showcases a surface with etched rings contouring its rounded form. The lampshade is reminiscent of a semi-cone shape, as the end flares outwards, while the other end appears concave, with a flat, circular top that encompasses the light switch. Originating from the 1950s, this lamp clearly reflects the then-popularized Mid-Century Modern style, characterized by the inclusion of clean lines, shapes, and forms, a focus on functionality and simplicity, and offering a futuristic essence.
