DescriptionCorner of First and Railroad Avenue, Albuquerque ca. 1882. The painting depicts the corner of First avenue and Railroad (Central) Avenue, Albuquerque, New Mexico, circa 1882, looking south on First Street. A horse car is headed west on Central. The oxen are on the site of the Y.M.C.A., which was built in 1883. The corner building housed a hotel, the "Sturgis", a prominent name in early Albuquerque. Other buildings in the block were Mandell Hardware Store and at far left, the Albert Grunsfeld Building.
