The tip of the object is comprised of a small, cylindrical portion that fits within a small socket, and can be used to secure surgical bandages and fabrics in place. The clamp arm is tipped with a small, ball-like appendage. The two shanks of the object are joined by a flat hinge located at the base of the object. "H.PFAU GERMANY" is stamped in small text on the exterior of one of the shanks towards the tip of the object.
