DescriptionThis steel object a surgical retractor with two pointed prongs curved towards the handle at 180°. The handle consists of a large, elongated hoop with a small cylindrical indentation where the handle joins the body of the object. The thumb and pointer finger can be placed on the indentation while the other parts of the operator's hand rest on the handle. "TRUAX GREENE & CO" is stamped onto the body of the object towards the handle. Object is very slightly corroded, with small scratches and blemishes visible on each part. Object was likely used to restrain larger tissues and bones in order to create a clear surgical field.
