DescriptionA cement war memorial honoring the place where Ernie Pyle was killed on Ie Shima, Japan. The form is an isosceles-trapezoid representing the 77th Infantry Division's shoulder sleeve patch. A plate has been embedded into the front that shows the statue of liberty and a plaque below it reads, "At this spot the 77th Infantry Division lost a buddy Ernie Pyle 18 April 1945". The monument is on top of a small area of terraced grass.On View
