DescriptionThis object is comprised of a small, rectangular cardboard box containing five glass ampules filled with a clear, brown liquid labeled Metrazol. This substance was briefly used in the 1930s as an inducer of seizures, which were thought to be therapeutic. The box stands vertically and is segmented into five vertical rectangular sections to store the ampules. The label on the box reads: "FIVE AMPULES 3 cc. size / Each cc. contains 1 1/2 grains (0.1 Gm.) Metrazol / in 0.1 percent sodium phosphate solution / TRADE Metrazol MARK / Brand of Pentylenetetrazol / Subcutaneous, Intramuscular and Intravenous Injection / DOSE: 1 to 3 cc. repeated / BILHUBER-KNOLL CORP., JERSEY CITY, N.J. / Distributors 154 Ogden Avenue / PRINTED IN U.S.A." An additional square label on the back of the box reads: "Metrazol 3 cc. size / Each ampule contains a sufficient / amount to permit withdrawal and / administration of 3 cc. Each cc. con- / tains 1 1/2 grains (0.1 Gm.) Metrazol in 0.1 percent / sodium phosphate solution. / Subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intravenously. / DOSE: 1 to 3 cc., repeated every 1 to 4 hours, / or more often if necessary. / BILHUBER-KNOLL CORP., Jersey City, N. J. / Printed in U.S.A." The objects are in good condition save for some minor abrasions visible on the exterior of the box.On View
