DescriptionA studio portrait of William H. Cobb at the Cobb Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He stands in front of a painted backdrop and wears a checkered wool jacket sinched at the waist with matching pants. He wears a starched white collar beneath with a speckled tie. There is s scull pin attached to the top of the tie's knot. There is a T-bar pocket watch chain attached to the top button hole of his jacket, and patterned handkerchief coming from his breast pocket. His hair is cut short, parted to the side, and swooped back in a finger wave. He has a mustache. One hand is behind his back and the other rests at his side. William looks off into the distance. William Cobb was born in New York and later worked with the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad as a surveyor. The southwestern climate suited his health because he suffered from tuberculosis. After living in Arizona for some years, he moved to Albuquerque and bought W. Calvin Brown’s photography studio in 1889 and renamed it Cobb Studio. He married Eddie Ross. They co-owned and ran Cobb Studio together until he died in 1909. Eddie and William had four children, Edmund, Susan, Daphne, and Wilfred.
