DescriptionThis award is the "E. H. Shaffer Award", given for outstanding work in an investigative series. The award itself is mounted on a metal board in front of a wooden rectangular backing. The text is black and the award title is in a cursive style. This first place award was received by Jim Dawson and Denise Tessier for their investigative piece for the Albuquerque Journal called "Did Kerry Lee Kill Velten". Below this is information about who promoted the award and how the award was for outstanding journalism. There is a stamp for a New Mexican institution and the signatures of the president and secretary of the award institution are along the bottom. On the back of the wooden mount is an orange tag indicating the maker and maker's location of the mount.
