DescriptionNathan Levois hands Bernice Letzkus a toy at the St. Francis Gardens Day Care Center at 904 Las Lomas Road Northeast in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Letzkus reaches for the toy as she sits in a wheelchair and toddlers play around her on a large rug in a classroom at the day care center. A second child plays with the wheels of the wheelchair Letzkus sits in. In the background a toddler sits in a high-chair in "time out" with the chair facing the corner of the room. The toddler is turned around in the chair to watch the others playing. Wooden cubbies holding children's coats is along the back wall. A striped blanket covers Letzkus' lap. A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "Although confined to a wheelchair, Bernice Letzkus, 68, manages to play each day with her "adopted" child, 22-month-old Nathan Levois (center, handing her a toy) at the St. Francis Gardens Day Care Center in Albuquerque, N.M. The connecting nursing home and the child care center have an unusual program which allows the elderly and the children to have contact with each other every day."On View
