DescriptionCast Iron Fluter and rectangular base used to press decorative ruffles into skirts or collars. Object is comprised of a solid iron base and flutter. The top of the base and bottom of the fluter itself have interlocking brass ridges, which can be vertically slid off of both the fluter and the base to be interchanged. The base has a level lid on which the ridges sit, while the fluter has a curved body to allow the object to roll across the base and provide more pressure on certain points. The bottom of the base has raised stamped lettering reading: "PAT.D AUGUST / 21, 1866. / HEAT THIS." The flute has a horizontal cast-iron handle with a wide grip above it, with "GENEVA . ILL" stamped onto the top. Near the bases of the handle and on top of the fluter body is stamped: "GENEVA HAND / FLUTER" surrounded by decorative raised indentations.
