DescriptionThis linen-backed paper map splits the world into two hemispheres on either side of the page with a view of the world in a circular design. Each circle has a border around a thin dotted line and where the hemisphere connects the lines stop and the world is joined between South America and Africa. On the left side, South America and part of North America are shown, with North America split into French southeast, the Mexican southwest, and the British north in Canada. A large number of islands are depicted in the Pacific Ocean, also called the South Sea in the lower part. On the right side, Europe, Africa, and Asia are marked in detail but the land around Australia known as New Holland is incomplete. A curved line moves across both sides and naval travel routes are marked with small dotted lines. Scenes of Indigenous life are drawn in each of the four corners with Africa, Europe, America, and Asia all represented with trees, people, and animals stereotypically associated with the area.
