Cynthia Barber
born 1939 Boston, Massachusetts; lives Albuquerque, New Mexico
After her return to the United States, Barber became an active participant in the Washington, D.C. art scene, where she had several public and private commissions. Nevertheless, she remained active in social causes throughout South America.
In 1985, Barber moved to New Mexico, where she was inspired by the landscape and, according to the artist, finally “discovered colors.” Her multicolored steel sculptures are part of the permanent collections of the Albuquerque Museum, Central New Mexico Community College, the Albuquerque Academy, as well as several private collections. In addition to pursuing her art career, she was also employed for fifteen years at Tamarind Institute as an art administrator, and then worked at Landfall Press in Santa Fe for two years. Cynthia resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
