Sidney Schultz
"Schultz was born in New Jersey but moved to Albuquerque after finishing his medical residency in Louisiana at Tulane University. A few years later, he opened his practice. His medical degree is from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He also completed a residency in general surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and internal medicine at New York Downtown Hospital. He loved to recount puns, riddle stories, and Yiddish jokes and shared his love of art, especially Western and Native American art. Schultz's wardrobe was eclectic: there were the infamous red, white and blue plaid pants he wore to each Indian Market. The jaw-dropping array of sport coats, slacks, and sweaters in various colors, fabrics, and patterns. And his astounding collection of bolo ties and buckles. In 2009, Schultz and his wife, Ruth, were recognized by the Wheelwright Museum for their contributions to American Indian Art over the decades. Ruth served on SWAIA’s (Indian Market’s sponsoring organization) board for many years. Ruth and Sidney have been avid collectors of Native American art for over 50 years, and Ruth often shared her expertise with informative lectures on how to become a collector. "
