Fred Harvey Company
Founded by Fred Harvey (1835-1901), the Fred Harvey Company owned a series of Harvey House restaurants, hotels, and other establishments centered around hospitality in western states, notably near railroads. With travelers and visitors in mind, the Fred Harvey Company aimed to introduce them to the fascinatingly rich and unique culture of the Southwest through exceptional hospitality. The creation of the Harvey Girls, a meticulously-trained group of young servers, were implemented throughout the company's restaurants, attracting and keeping more visitors. Acting as a pioneer for hospitality and service within rail travel and playing a crucial role in promoting Southwest tourism, the Fred Harvey Company presented an elevated standard of service throughout the region while incorporating the Native American and Spanish-American culture rooted in the Southwest.
