Seferina Ortiz

Seferina Ortiz was born in 1931 on Cochiti Pueblo. Her mother, Laurencita Herrera was a well known potter and trained her. Ortiz began making pottery for the market in the 1950s. She married potter Guadalupe Ortiz and their many of their 6 children, including Inez Ortiz, Virgil Ortiz, Joyce Lewis, and Janice Ortiz, also became potters. Seferina Ortiz is known for her storytellers and figurative pottery. She also makes some ollas, jars and effigy pots. She died in 2007.
