BiographyReverend Reese was a reverend and a teacher based in Selma, Alabama who was heavily involved in the civil rights movement and the voting rights protests in the city. In 1960 he joined the Dallas County Voters League and became the organization's president in 1962. Reese became the pastor of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Selma in 1965. He worked with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to organize the march from Selma to Montgomery in March of 1965, and was one of the leaders during Bloody Sunday. Reese continued to fight for civil rights in both the political and social arena until his death.
