Rin Tin Tin was a male German Shepherd born in Flirey, France, who became a silent era movie star. He was rescued from a World War I battlefield by an American soldier, Lee Duncan, who trained him. He was first given minor roles in several productions and his popularity made him a Warner Brothers star. His stardom continued with the advent of sound motion pictures. His son, Rin Tin Tin, Jr. followed in his footsteps.
