Cecil B. De Mille was an American director and actor during the silent film era. As one of Hollywood’s first directors, De Mille originally produced and directed light comedies reflecting the mores and manners of the Roaring Twenties. Although he directed many kinds of pictures, De Mille became synonymous with Biblical epics of spectacular proportions. His film credits include: The Squaw Man (1914), Road to Yesterday (1925), Cleopatra (1934), Samson and Delilah (1949), and The Ten Commandments (1923 and 1956).
