Growing in prominence during World War I, the company began drilling for oil in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, and successfully started New Mexico’s role as a major oil producer. At this time, the crew had to be armed with weapons to fend off bandits and later moved into Cameron County, New Mexico for a more reliable oil source.
