David Rabinowitch

David Rabinowitch is a Canadian artist known for his sculpture. He was born in 1943 in Toronto and is the twin brother of sculptor Royden Rabinowitch. He studied English Literature at the University of Western Ontario from 1963 to 1966. He has taught at Yale University and Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. In 1975, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in fine arts and in 1994 was appointed Sculptor in Residence at the Atelier Calder in Saché. Rabinowitch, influenced by abstract expressionism, started painting in the late 1950s and switched to sculpture after seeing the work of David Smith. Each sculpture is preceded by preparatory drawings and his work is influenced by architecture, science, philosophy, and music. His work is in collections around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery in D.C., Kunsthaus in Zürich, Switzerland, National Gallery of Canada, Kunsthalle in Bielefeld, Germany, and the San Francisco Museum of Art.
