Joseph Cernoborn 1947 McCartys, New Mexico

An Acoma potter born in 1947, Joseph Cerno learned pottery making from his mother, reknowned pottery and medicine woman Santana Cimmeron Cerno. He sold pottery for his mother along Route 66 near Malpais in the lates 1950s and early 1960s. After serving in the US Marine Corps, Joseph began making pottery with his wife, Barbara, in 1969. They are known for their large traditional polychrome ollas made from natural clay and mineral and vegetal paints.
