Taller de Gráfica Popularfounded 1937

Artist's collective founded in Mexico by Leopoldo Méndez, Pablo O'Higgins, and Luis Arenal. As one Mexico’s political printshops, the Taller de Gráfica Popular (TGP, Popular Graphic Arts Workshop) has an important place in Mexico’s long history of printmaking in the service of social change. The TGP coalesced as an organization in 1937 after the collapse of the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (LEAR, Revolutionary Writers’ and Artists’ League) founded three years earlier. The TGP focused on the use of visual art in service of social change and worked mainly in monochrome relief prints, with occasional multicolor images or other print techniques.
