Zane Blaney

Zane Blaney was a radio journalist and radio/TV producer. He began working in radio at the age of 15, beginning at a small-town station in Wyoming and progressing through Denver, Albuquerque, and Sacramento to San Francisco. In the mid-1970s, he was the news and public affairs director at KMYR and KDEF radio stations and the Roadrunner State Network (RSN) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, covering news and alternative topics. He was also the President of the Albuquerque Press Club in 1974. In the late 1970s he moved to San Francisco and was an independent documentary producer. He began recording interviews with San Francisco’s queer leaders, which became a series of audio documentaries aired on PBS radio stations. In 1982, he worked with a small independent television crew to produce recordings of the first Gay Games. He was a founding member of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, San Francisco Bay Area (GLAAD/SFBA), a group which advocates for an end to bigotry and misinformation about LGBTQIA+ people in media. In the early 2000s, Blaney became a board member and ultimately executive director of the San Francisco Community Television Corporation which developed and managed San Francisco's public and government cable television access channels.
