Scott Douglas Dodson
A native New Mexican, Scott Douglass Dodson, a graduate from Highland High School in 1968, went on to study at the University of New Mexico (UNM), stepping foot into the realm of international ballroom dancing. Beginning as a student, Dodson gained expertise in the creative pursuit and eventually became a teacher, leading to his position as a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. He heightened his career by teaching at the Enchantment Ballroom and Champion Ballroom in Albuquerque and Balboa Park, located in San Diego, California. While at a dance competition, Dodson survived the MGM Grand Fire in 1980 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. A valued community member, Dodson created a career based around his passion, inspired students through his mentorship, and made a significant difference in the lives of New Mexicans and Californians in the dance community. He is buried in Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque to be commemorated.
