Marcellus Medina

Marcellus Medina was born on Zia Pueblo in 1954. His mother, Sofia Medina, and grandmother Juanita Toribio Pino, were potters and his father, Rafael Medina, was a painter. Marcellus Medina began learning how to paint from his father in the mid-1970s and was also influenced by his uncle, José D. Medina. He paints both watercolors and on pottery. For the pottery, he collaborates with his wife, Elizabeth Toya Medina. Elizabeth will make the pots while he paints the design, using acrylics and some traditional Zia mineral and vegetal paints.
