DescriptionThis circular plate is constructed of cast aluminium, previously self-standing, but unattached to the prior backing support. Reminiscent of a quarter, the silver color encompasses the entire surface. Four small, evenly spaced holes are visible on the top, bottom, left, and right of the plate, most likely where screws or rivets would be placed for attachment to a larger appliance. Four raised, swirl-like embellishments sit in between the holes, connecting together to create a subtle, raised border, framing the perimeter of the circular form. A plethora of circular indents or dimples covers the surface of the plate, likely created through the metal stippling technique, which involves hammering the indents using a small, specialized tool. The center of the plate reads "GE" in large, cursive lettering, referring to General Electric. Founded in 1892, General Electric is a multi-industry conglomerate, serving as a pioneer in a wide range of appliances for nearly a century and a half. Taking this into consideration, it is likely that this plate served as part of an electric device, acting as a label. On View
