A note says he had recently moved to Hot Springs, New Mexico (now known asTruth or Consequences). An official of the Quarter Horse Association is handing Starnes the trophy. An unidentified woman holds the prize ribbon and stands next to Starnes. "Cowboy Mike" is a black horse with a black mane and black tail. They are all in the outdoor show ring. Spectators are lining the ring. The livestock barn is in the background.
