DescriptionThis brown brass coin bank disguised as a book features a sizeable red-orange square with the words "Albuquerque / National / Bank" inside it in large embossed white lettering on the leather front cover. Located on North Third Street and West Central Avenue, Albuquerque's First National Bank, built during the first half of the twentieth century, just over a decade after New Mexico achieved statehood, pioneered financial institutions in the state and symbolized the beginning of significant economic stability. Following its high cost to build, the bank became New Mexico's first skyscraper until 1954, standing at 141 feet tall. Underneath this, "Time / To Save" is illustrated at the bottom within brown squares. Two vertical white lines are seen at the bank's top, spanning to the bottom, forming a design with a small red-orange square in its center. The book's back side incorporates an emblem of various symbols, notably a shield, a lion, and a crown. Underneath the emblem reads "Member Federal Deposit / Insurance Corporation" in red-orange lettering. Upon observing the bottom brass portion of the fake pages of the bank, the words "Bankers / Utilities Co. / San Francisco / Patented / July 3, 1923 / Made in USA" are illustrated. A money slot is on the brass top of the bank, while a small keyhole is observed on the side.
