DescriptionTrivets were popular tools used for cooking in the 1700s that later became less frequently used with the invention of coal-burning stoves. Trivets due to their being used to cook on uneven surfaces like on the ground are built with legs that act as a stand. This object has three curved long legs and a handle with legs protruding through the circular top base. The ingenuity of these pieces can be seen in the construction of the handle that is made from a wagon wheel strap. Many of these items are not made in factories and are no longer hand forged.
