DescriptionThis circular bronze pin reads "Harvey Car Service" in cursive lettering, contouring the circular pin. The center showcases a thunderbird with a triangle-patterned border around the perimeter of the pin. Referring to the Harveycar Courier Service under the Fred Harvey Company, founded in 1876, the courier service acted as a tourism organization under the "Indian Detours" program. By providing tours throughout the Southwest, particularly New Mexico, the service brought visitors through Indian Pueblos and other notable locations such as the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest. With a decline during and after the Great Depression and the eventual selling of the Fred Harvey Company in 1968, the service still proved significant regarding the increased attraction of visitors in the Southwest, which impacted the economy, and the sharing of cultural ideas, primarily focusing on Native American heritage.
