A typed caption on the back of the photograph reads, "A Taos Indian family climbs up the ladders at Taos Pueblo to reach their apartment on the second story. This ancient pueblo, located in Northern New Mexico was the out post of civilization in the North and the center of intrigue and rebellion during the early years of the Spanish conquest in the sixteenth century.
