DescriptionThis metal spur likely holds Hispanic or Mexican origins, characterized by its thicker heelband and star-shaped rowel at the end. Substantial rust and discoloration are visible throughout, likely indicating heavy usage or damage over time. The "U" shaped segment of the spur serves as the heelband, also referred to as the" branch" or "yoke", acting as the portion that would attach to the heel of the wearer's shoe, typically a riding boot. The ends of the heelband feature a circular portion known as the button, in which a spur strap would attach when in use to help ensure its security. The shank portion of the spur is attached to the central, bottom portion of the heelband, serving as the connector between the rowel and heelband. The rowel sits at the end of the shank, and encompasses four, protruding triangular shapes, creating a star-like form. The small, circular rowel pin is visible amongst the rusting, and sits in the center of the rowel.
