DescriptionThis gold and coral filigree necklace and pendant has four pale orange-red coral cabochons that run along the center from top to bottom. This piece was made by Antonio Abeitia and sold in the family store called Abeitia’s Jewelers of Socorro in Socorro, New Mexico. The box that accompanies the piece is labeled by the Abetia family of filigree makers from Socorro, New Mexico. Fancy gold jewelry was rare in the central Rio Grande area until the 19th century. During this period, families added filigree jewelry to dowries in preparation for marriage.
