DescriptionThis campaign button was created for General Douglas MacArthur during his post-WWII ambitions to run for president in the late 1940s. At the time, MacArthur was serving as an active-duty general in the South Pacific, making it difficult for him to campaign publicly. While he frequently denied any intention to run, he was secretly working behind the scenes to build his campaign. Ultimately, MacArthur withdrew from the race as support shifted toward other Republican candidates. Although he was widely admired for his World War II heroics, his popularity wasn’t enough to secure a path to the White House. The button has a white background with red and blue detailing. There is a blue portrait of MacArthur in the center, with white text above and below. The text reads "AMERICA'S HERO/GEN. MacARTHUR."
