DescriptionThis steelyard device, also known as a Roman balance or "romana," displays a steel bar and three places to hang weights, two of which have hooks. The central chassis of the instrument features a calibrated beam, showcasing a fulcrum secured in place with a suspension hook in the center. Additionally, two metal suspension hooks are visible on one side, each connected with circular and rectangular mechanisms. Utilized for weighing heavy objects, the device includes an inscription reading "Villa Vicino / Año de 1770", signifying its connection to colonial Mexico during the late eighteenth century. Differently, the counterpoise segment of the scale includes a marking that states the year 1876.On View
