DescriptionThird phase Chief blanket or rug. Warp is handspun native wool, weft is handspun native, white/natural, dark brown heightened with dye, red aniline, wide wefts but good shape, different from other Chief blankets; red is more consistent, indicating it was dyed relatively late. Warps 3-ply, S-ply, Z-spun. The brown, beige and brown meanders create a negative design in the red background, creating rows of mountains at the center and ends. At the top and center, the black line dividing the mountains is above the meander; and below it at the bottom.
