DescriptionThis metal Burroughs adding machine, also known as a printing calculator, is likely from the twentieth century. The machine sits upon a stand with four supportive legs with four spindles on the bottom portion. Just below this, a folding mechanism appears to be visible, along with a wheel attached to each leg. The top of the stand features a similar setup and includes what is likely a small wooden side table, which can fold out on one side, attached to the top supports with two hinges. The top support spindle facing the front reads "Made in USA" in capital, etched or engraved lettering. The machine itself features a typewriter or cash register-like appearance, with a longer horizontal platform featuring various black and white protruding number keys, and a perpendicular vertical base on top. reading "Burrough's" in an underlined and serifed golden lettering. A thin, contoured border surrounds the text, while the printing mechanism is pictured above, with a roll of printing paper. Gaining significant popularity during the twentieth century, the machine served for a variety of tasks within accounting spaces and offices for mathematical calculations.
